In this section we shall be reviewing music. Most of the time it should,
hopefully, be new releases. Although some older songs/tunes may be reviewed
as well.

Note: We want your input to this section also, (aren't we generous!), at
the moment we only have Dance Music on the agenda for this section, if you
want other styles to be reviewed, please write to the address above and say
which, and we'll try to get someone to review it for you each issue. But
for the mo, it'll have to be Dance.

"Time to Find Me" by Seefeel/Aphex Twin on Too Pure records.

Those who know anything about Aphex Twin, (Richard James), will know how
remarkably hard it is to track down any records that he produces. For a
start, he records under various names, for instance, Polygon Window, AFX,
Rephlex, Caustic Window, and possibly others. Who knows? I've even picked
up records made by him that have absolutely nothing at all written on the
labels, (the so called white-labels of the music industry, or in this case
they were blue and red labels).

But this record may not be so hard to find. For a start, it's actually
recorded under the name of Aphex Twin, so you'll find it in the right
section in the record shop, and also the name is printed in fairly large
letters. Anyway, as to the track, it is definitely up to the standard we've
all come to expect from Aphex Twin.

There are two mixes of the title track on the first side of the single and
on the second side is a totally seperate song by just Seefeel.

The first mix is the afx fast mix, and is filled with very hard metallic
sounding drum rhythms, a beautiful bassline and a soft, gentle female vocal
that sounds almost ghostly, although that could be the large reverb/echo
always found in Aphex Twin's tracks. The tune sounds almost indie-ish, in
fact, rather like a Sugarcube's track or Curve track, but made with
"Techno" instruments rather than guitars.

The second mix is the afx slow mix. It's not much different really, except
a lot slower and there is less of the vocal.

On the whole, a very thoughtful piece of music and an original tune.

"Electronica - American and European Technological Innovations - vol 1" by
Various on Beechwood Music Ltd

Dance compilations seem to spring up every month or so, and nearly always
never do the scene much justice, normally including a lot of "chart" music
which perhaps is not the better side of dance.

But once in a while, something really good and worth waiting for comes
along. I'd say Electronica fits quite nicely into that category.

Almost all angles of dance music are included here, (with the exception of
perhaps Garage, Rave amd Hiphop), there's some House, some spacey-Techno, a
touch of Acid, etc. It is a double album with eight tracks on it, two each
side.

Underground Resistance, (one of my favourite old Detroit techno acts), is
on here with the spacey track "The Final Frontier".

Nico delivers the goods with a great acid-stomper called "Darkstar
[positive outlook]"

The range of styles available on this album certainly goes to prove that
there are those artists out there on the Dance scene who know what they're
doing. Also, the album shows how much Techno has become an international
language between nearly every country on the map.

This is, arguably, one of the best dance compilations of this year so far.
